Thankful for your home's roof | Dick's Roofing

Be Thankful For Your Home’s Roof

As Thanksgiving approaches and we ponder what we are thankful for, have you ever stopped and felt appreciation for your home’s roof? Are you guilty of taking your roof for granted? For many of us, the roof is simply something that covers the top of our home – we simply don’t think about it very often. The reality is that your roof is arguably the most critical part of your property!

Read on to discover the many benefits having a roof in good repair can bring. We also take a quick look at what might happen if you fail to complete a timely roof repair or roof replacement.

Stabilize Your Property

The roof plays a key role in strengthening your property’s structure. Roof beams, joists, and rafters not only support the roof’s fabric but also help keep your walls in position and reinforce the supportive work done by the foundations. If part of the roof deteriorates, irregular forces can be set up that put unnecessary stress on other areas of your home, potentially creating weakness and an increased risk of failure. This is a serious roof problem you want to avoid. If you feel your home has a sagging roof, contact Dick’s Roof Repair right away for a roof inspection.

Waterproofing for Your Home

It goes without saying that your roof protects you, your family, and the interior of your home from precipitation. However, rain, hail, and snow can find their way into the tiniest cracks or gaps in a roof. Once inside, processes such as freeze/thaw action, biological contaminants, or rot accelerate structural deterioration. Regular inspection and prompt repair is the best way to avoid a leaky roof and potential water damage.

Keeping Your Fuel Bills Low

Studies show that more than a quarter of the heat produced in your home can be lost through poor roof repair and a lack of insulation. Not only does heat leak out during the colder months, inadequate roof repair and insulation also means your A/C bills will be much higher than they need be during the summer. Keeping your roof in good condition and well-insulated is kinder to your purse and the planet.

Enhance Roof Safety

Even a tiny crack in a roof can provide an opportunity for the wind to enter. High winds can easily lift a tile/shingle or cause large portions of the roof to detach. The best way to minimize the risk of storm damage is to keep your roof well-maintained. Even the slightest storm damage can eventually lead to significant issues, leading to significant repair costs.

Better Air Quality for Your Family

Unfortunately, a roof in poor repair will allow water to leak into your home. Moisture on your walls or seeping down into your ceiling doesn’t just cause structural weakness; it also provides a breeding ground for bacteria, mold, and insects. From bug infestations to the growth of mold, moisture problems can have a real (and, sadly, occasionally devastating) impact on your family’s health.

A dry, weatherproof home is one of the most important ways of reducing the risk of biological agents colonizing your property. And weatherproofing starts with the roof to avoid potential roof leaks, ice dams in the winter, and other roof damage! Keeping your roof in good condition is one of the best things to protect your family from the ill effects of damp and the biological contamination that damp encourages.

Enhance the Appearance of Your Home

Keeping your roof in good condition adds curb appeal to your property. For some households, investing in a new roof can absolutely transform their frontage. Particularly if you’re considering selling your property, investing in the work needed to keep your roof looking good will optimize the chance of a sale.

In addition, a new roof, or a roof that’s been kept in excellent condition, also has the potential to increase the value of your property – new buyers see a high-grade roof that’s either been newly replaced or repaired and maintained correctly as a sign that the rest of the property has probably been cared for similarly.

If you want to optimize the value of your home, a high-grade roof is a key consideration.

Improve the Lifespan of Your Roof

Obviously, nobody wants to spend on major repairs or a complete roof replacement unless they have to. That means it’s essential to look at affordable measures that can prolong the lifespan of your existing roof for as long as possible and avoid wear and tear. Regular maintenance and timely repair (particularly if there is storm damage or signs of moisture entering the property) are the best ways to keep your roof working well for longer. Low roof repair costs are often more manageable than the expense of a complete replacement due to neglect.

If a roof replacement is needed, it’s worth noting that modern roofs last for decades and are designed to provide excellent insulation, as well as be easy to maintain and repair.

Keep Your Insurance Valid

In the event of damage to your property caused by structural weakness, moisture, or similar, some insurance companies will refuse to pay out if it becomes apparent that your roof was neglected and that this contributed to the problems you’re now putting in a claim for.

If you want to be sure your insurance is valid and will offer a payout in the event of making a claim, ensuring you’ve kept your roof sound and in weatherproof condition needs to be a priority.

Celebrate Your Roof!

With so many advantages, it’s clear that replacing or repairing your roof is a good investment – not only can it provide you and your family with the weatherproof home you deserve, it also has a number of economic and health benefits.

It’s not just having a good roof that’s something to be thankful for – having a great roofing company on hand to carry out any roofing work you need is also cause for celebration!

Cost of Roof Repair

Cost of Roof Repair Increasing, Schedule Now

A roof is low maintenance compared to lawn care and significant appliance upkeep. But too many homeowners neglect regular roof repair until they need a whole roof replacement.

Roof replacement makes up over 90% of the roofing industry’s work. Older buildings are especially vulnerable because some roofs last only 20-30 years.

If you want to get the most from your roof’s lifespan, now is the time to schedule home repair and roofing. Like so many other materials goods, roofing costs are increasing, and a roof repair budget that’s doable today might be a tight squeeze tomorrow.

Our essential guide to roof repair has all the information you need to keep your roof in tip-top shape and the reasons why you shouldn’t delay roof repair service any longer. Keep reading to learn more.

Regular Roof Repair

Regular roof repair maintenance fixes minor issues before they become significant issues. Common problems include the following:

  • Water damage
  • Dry rot
  • Fixture issues (vents, chimneys)
  • Fashing issues
  • Skylight leaks and damage
  • Wind, ice, and storm damage
  • Broken or missing shingles
  • Inadequate water run-off
  • Roof sagging
  • Leaky roof
  • Damaged underlayment
  • Mold or algae patches

If neglected too long, these problems can cause major structural damage. For example, your roof can develop large holes or become a collapse hazard. It can also damage your home’s interior.

If the roof damage is too severe, you’ll need a roof replacement. The cost of replacing roofs is much higher than routine roof repairs.

If you want to sell your home, a buyer can negotiate a lower price based on estimated home repair and roofing issues. For example, a good condition roof can add over $15,000 in home value. And a roof remodel gives homeowners a 109% return on investment (ROI).

Roof Replacement

A roof won’t last forever, even with the best upkeep. An average roof lifespan can be anywhere between 15 to 50 years, according to Roofing Calculator.

Some common roof types and their average lifespan are as follows:

  • Wooden shingles- 30 years
  • 3-tab asphalt shingles- 15-20 years
  • Architectural shingles- 20-30 years
  • Premium shingles- 25-40 years
  • Stand seam metal- 50 years
  • Ribbed metal panels- 25-50 years
  • Stone-coated steel tiles- 30-50 years
  •

Some specialty roofs can last even longer:

  • Clay tiles- 50-100 years
  • Slate tiles- 75-200 years

But even hardy clay and slate roofs need regular maintenance to last so long. Seasonal weather, fungus invasions, and neglect can damage even the strongest roof.

And although some tiles last very long, roof fixtures like fashing, underlayment, and gutters will still need regular replacing as they corrode or get damaged.

Average Costs of Roof Repair and Replacement

Pricing roof repair or roof replacement depends on many variables, so you’ll only get a rough estimate until a roofing contractor evaluates it. Costs can depend on the following:

  • Roof material type
  • Roof size and pitch
  • The repair issue
  • Local area prices
  • Climate
  • Labor rates
  • Supply costs
  • City and state building codes

According to HomeAdvisor’s data, the national average is $963 for roof repair service and $8,429 for roof replacement.

A galvanized steel roof averages $3,000 for 17 squares, while a copper roof averages $25,000. And the average roof replacement cost is $8,000-$16,500 in Florida, but only $4,500-$9,500 in Maryland.

More minor roof repairs are only $150-400 dollars. Some homeowners put off repairing small issues like a broken or missing shingle until there are more of them, thinking it will save them money on repair costs.

But these minor issues can escalate quickly, especially if there’s extreme weather involved.

Instead of saving $45-$75 on an extra hour of labor, they end up with high-end repairs that can cost $7,000. Or they pay even more than that for roof replacement.

How These Costs Are Rising

The supply and demand chain has affected roofing prices. For example, the demand for roof repair service has gone up, so the cost of roofing materials has gone up too.

There’s also the Coronavirus premium, which caused material shortages during shutdowns and layoffs. The natural disasters in California and Louisiana added their own shortage effects to materials and labor.

HomeAdvisor estimates the overall increase for roof repair has been 5%-10% since 2020. This might not be so bad for low-end roof repairs, but it can add hundreds more to significant work or a roof replacement.

The material costs are still going up, so the average cost of replacing roofs will be exponentially more significant.

If the average roof replacement cost is $8,429, a 10% increase equals a new average of $9,271. That’s over 800 dollars you could save scheduling home repair and roofing before the uptick.

Labor shortages also mean delays in roof repair service. If you need urgent home repair and roofing work, a delay of 30-90 days can cause additional damages and stress. It’s better to schedule for small work before it becomes urgent work.

Finding Professional Roofers

Avoid costly mistakes to your roof repair budget by picking a quality roofing company. A sloppy roof repair service can be worse than no roof repair at all.

Local, family-owned roofing companies are usually more accessible than a national roofing chain. Some chains outsource their roof repair services to independent contractors, so you may pick a good company but get bad contractor work.

Along with more personalized service for your home, local companies are generally cheaper. They also have more specialized knowledge and experience of the area’s building standards, procedures, and codes.

Methods to evaluate a roofing company include:

  • Checking their licensing and qualifications
  • Checking their online reviews and ratings
  • Looking up their social media
  • Learning their reputation in the area
  • Asking for referrals
  • Learning how long they’ve been in business

A reputable and reliable roofing company gives you professional service and a written estimate. They won’t try to strong-arm you into contracts or artificially inflate the costs after you’ve signed with them.

Choose an established and experienced company over lowball offers from dodgy competitors. With the new roofing demand, predatory or inexperienced contractors may take advantage of the new market demands and stressed homeowners. So be careful!

Replace Your Roof this Fall

Schedule Your Fall Roof Repair NOW

Winter can wreak havoc on your roof. The wet weather can lead to water damage, ice dams, and more problems for your home if you do not get your roof repaired.

Because the winter weather can worsen so many roofing problems, you need to get these taken care of before the season changes.

Winter weather can seriously damage your roof, regardless of what type of roof you have.

Whether you have an existing leak that worsens from a winter storm or if your roof is not sealed, you may find that water can seep into these gaps and damage your home.

Because the winter months are so cold, this water can freeze and create an ice dam. Ice dams can be dangerous for roofs because they turn small cracks into large leaks. The weight of the ice buildup on your roof may even cause unsupported roofs to collapse.

Do you want to learn more about fall roof repair and roof replacement? Then, keep reading these five reasons why you should hire a fall roof repair team to take care of your roofing problems!

1. Avoiding Unpredictable Weather

One of the critical reasons you should get your roofing services taken care of in the fall is mother nature.

Midwest weather is unpredictable year-round, from spring rains to summer’s boiling heat. No homeowner wants to chance an early rainstorm damaging their newly exposed roof or high heat causing scuffs of their brand new shingles. You also don’t want to worry about the chance of your home’s new shingles not sealing properly in the winter chill.

By scheduling your home’s roof repair or replacement in the fall, you can take advantage of Wisconsin’s cooler temperatures and more mild weather patterns. This makes this the optimal time to repair or replace your home’s roof.

2. Prevents Pests

Next, you need to get your roof repaired in the fall months because it can help you prevent pests from nesting in your home. As the weather cools down, many animals like squirrels, mice, and more seek refuge from the weather.

If you have any cracks or holes that lead into your home, you may find that these pests will begin to nest and may spend the winter in your home. Once pests live inside your house, they may chew through wires, eat your insulation, and cause more damage to your home.

To prevent these pests from invading your home, you can have your roofing repair company identify potential entrances for pests and seal them off before it becomes a problem.

If you notice these common signs of pests in your home, you should find a roofing company to help you seal your roof.

3. Fewer Storms

Mother nature strikes again! If you are getting a new roof or getting your roof repaired, the last thing you want is a storm to happen in the middle of this process. If your roof is not water-tight, storms can lead to water damage.

Because there are typically fewer storms in the fall months, this makes it a relatively safe time of year to get your roof repaired as the weather is much more predictable.

On the other hand, rainy spring and summer months may lead to worsened problems with your roof if you get your roof repaired during a storm. If there is a storm, it also means that your roofing company will not get your project done as quickly.

To get your project done more efficiently, it is best to schedule it for the fall months.

4. Save on Heating

When you repair your roof in the summer, it can help you save money on heating costs in the winter months. If you do not seal your roof properly, it can let a lot of heat escape if you don’t repair it.

Old roofs may also have problems with insulation. If you do not have enough insulation in your attic or roof, your heat will be able to escape. This will cost you more to regulate the temperature of your home.

By getting a roof repair or replacement in the fall, you will be able to keep your roof better insulated for the upcoming winter months.

5. Repair Summer Damage

Finally, fall roof repair will fix damage to your roof sustained during the hot summer months. Because summer weather is so hot, the sun can cause damage to your roof and the materials on it.

Many people don’t realize that your roof will also be much hotter than the temperature outside. Because heat rises, the heat in your house will come through to the roof. Your shingles will also absorb some of the heat from the sun.

The continued exposure to the sun can lead to shingles that are warped or cracked. If your shingles are brittle from the summer weather, you need to get them fixed before storms. Otherwise, they may not hold back the weather.

Find The Best Roof Replacement & Roof Repair Company Today

As the weather changes from fall to winter, you need to get your roof taken care of and repaired. If you wait too long, you may find that the winter weather can cause further damage to your roof and may result in a more expensive repair or replacement.

By repairing or replacing your roof in the fall, you can prevent pests, save money on heating, and more.

Ice Dams | Dick's Roofing

Lack of Attic Insulation Leads to Ice Dams

“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” is a great song for this time of year but, unfortunately, all that cold and snow can also mean ‘tis the season of ice dams.

Ice dams forming in your home’s gutter system is caused by the lack of proper insulation in your attic.  If your attic is too warm, this causes the snow on your roof to melt. As that melting snow pools into your gutters, it freezes and BAM, you have an ice dam.  This can cause havoc to your gutter system,  your roof in general and, eventually, it can cause serious water damage to your home.

A great rule of thumb, when it comes to your attic, is “if it’s too warm, cool it.” Your attic temperature is a result of heat rising from the inside of your home combined with the the heat from the sun shining on your roof.  Without proper insulation, your attic can become a hot little nest egg of trouble.

There are “bandaid” fixes for your ice dam issues. You could install heat tape (heat wire.) This is a heated wire system, across your roof, that creates pathways for melted snow to flow off your roof.  It is not a cheap system to install and it will also increase your electric bill. You can also make a point to rake your roof in the winter. Manually removing the snow, after each snowfall, can decrease your chances of an ice dam. But keep in mind that these are just temporary fixes.

Your best option, when it comes to eliminating ice dams, is to insulate your attic. Even Tom Silva, from “This Old House” agrees that the best way to eliminate ice dams is to properly insulate your attic.

Luckily, now is the time of year best suited for updating, replacing or installing new insulation in your attic area. If your attic is the “arctic tundra” in the winter and becomes the “Serengeti desert” in the height of summer, now is time to take action.  Inspection, installation and clean up is much easier and more comfortable at this time of year, both for you and your contractor.

Take care of your attic’s insulation needs.  Dick’s Roof Repair team can inspect and insulate your home for you.

Telltale Signs of Winter Roof Damage

Telltale Signs of Winter Roof Damage

There are many signs that indicate your roof is in need of attention. Sometimes, in the cold of winter, these signs become more self-evident as a result of melting snow, cascading ice or just the expansion and contraction of roof elements as a result of changes in the weather.

At Dick’s Roofing, we are experts in pinpointing what is causing the leak you may be experiencing, the wear you may be seeing or just the sounds you might hear that give you pause about the condition of the roof over your head.

The age of your roof is obviously a major factor in considering repair versus replacement. Most roofing experts will tell you most roofs should have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years. That is not a hard and fast rule. It is just the composite average of what most roofs do. Whether or not your roof was installed over old shingles will also affect how soon you need it replaced. Generally speaking, you can subtract approximately five years from the expected lifespan of a roof that was installed over old shingles. An excessive amount of granules in your gutters are also a sign of an aging roof.

One telltale indication of an aging, faulty roof is curling or buckling shingles. If you are witnessing this on your roof it may be time to call Dick’s for an estimate on getting it repaired before the curling and buckling results in more damage from leaks.

Roof valleys also need to be monitored closely. Snow and rain flow through valleys to the gutters and leaks often develop in those areas. You can often check in your attic to see if leaks are becoming evident in areas where the roofing is dipping.

If your house is missing shingles, you should ask Dick’s to ascertain if you need an entire new roof, or if you can get by with a repair of the area affected. Sometimes missing shingles are an indication that there are bigger issues pending with your entire roof. But there are times, as well, where wind or storm damage might affect only a small area and you can get by with a simple repair.

Chimney flashing should be watched closely in the winter. If the original flashing was done with roof cement or tar, you should consider replacing it with water tight metal flashing.

Daylight showing through into your attic means you need to do something quickly. If you are walking on the roof and your footing feels spongy or bouncy, you may have moisture damage to the underlying decking.

Animals in the attic often find their way in through holes in the roof. You would be amazed at how small a hole can be for an animal and still find their way in.

Dick’s Roofing is already scheduling roof replacements into the spring. If you need a free estimate or consultation on the condition of your roof, Dick’s Roofing is the place Kenoshans call to get the best product at the best price. We specialize in happy customers. Call today to make an appointment.

Icicles on roofs cause damage

Icicles On Your Roof Are A Sign Of Trouble

Have you ever been tempted, or dared, to stick your tongue on an icicle? First off, don’t do it because you might get stuck. Second of all, have you ever wondered why your home is covered those beautiful (but damaging) icicles anyway?

Icicles can be amazing! In the winter, you can see them everywhere but, if your home has them hanging from your roof, it is a sign of trouble.

Icicles are a symptom of ice dams. They form in your home’s gutter system due to lack of proper insulation in your attic. If your attic is too warm, this causes the snow on your roof to melt. As that melting snow pools into your gutters and freezes, the over flow eventually forms into the lovely icicle … that you might have just froze your tongue to.

Icicles and the ice dams behind them, can cause serious damage to your roof, your gutter systems and, eventually, can cause expensive water damage to your home.

The best solution to decreasing your home’s chances for these winter decorations is to properly insulate your attic. Between the heat rising up from the inside of your home to the heat of the sun beating down on your roof, the attic becomes an important player in the war against winter roof damage.

Unfortunately, chances are that you will not be able eliminate icicles from your home entirely. There are always a few sources of heat that will continue to sneak into your home’s attic. Plumbing stacks, bathrooms, chimneys, dryer vents – these are all points of weakness that can’t be helped.

Proper attic insulation is still your best defense against those beautiful and damaging roof decorations. With a properly insulated attic, your home can eliminate ice dams and thus a majority of icicles as well.

The season of icicles is the best season for you to have your attic worked on. Inspection, installation and clean up is much easier and more comfortable at this time of year, both for you and your contractor. You can also take advantage of our Attic Insulation Special and insulate up to 1,000 sq. ft. with an R-19 rating for only $575.

Roofing ROI & Dick's Roof Repair

Don’t Underestimate the ROI of a New Roof with Dick’s Roof Repair

Quite often roofing does not show up at the top of the list of things you should consider for enhancing the value of your house. Dick’s Roof Repair Service believes individual circumstances are a far more accurate barometer for deciding if you should repair or replace your roof in the near future. Often, those survey writers fail to fully appreciate the intangibles related to the sense of security and the curb appeal a good roof brings both to you and to those who might consider purchasing your home.

We handle a lot of other products – but our message today is that it isn’t in your best interest to consider a new roof any less important than many of the other projects you might be considering around your home. To follow are some of the reasons we feel confident in saying this:

Dick’s Roof Repair Service has a reputation for being the best roofing contractor in Kenosha and Racine Counties since 1957. Our knowledgeable salespeople and professional installers ensure that the roof you get is the roof you want and it is expertly installed so you can have confidence in it for years to come.

By contracting with Dick’s you know that your roof will perform as expected and you are working with a company with the experience necessary to do the job right the first time. From design and estimate to clean-up, Dick’s Roof Repair Service is the company Kenosha and Racine families are increasingly turning to for the answers to all of their roofing questions.

Besides the actual increase in home value that you get from your new or professionally repaired roof, you can also start the clock on lower heating and cooling bills by exploring appropriate shingle colors and materials designed with the technological expertise of scientists familiar with rugged midwestern weather patterns. Your investment goes down every time your energy bill is less as a result of the work that Dick’s can perform on your roof.

Dick’s gets their roofing products from ABC Supply Co., which prides itself in being “the largest wholesale distributorship of roofing products and supplies in America.” Over the years, Dick’s has found that by relying on ABC we can more comfortably meet the deadlines and goals of our customers. Simply put, ABC enables us to replace or repair your roof with the products and supplies we need, within your timetable.

Many Kenosha and Racine residents contact Dick’s when they are considering selling their home. It is always smart to explore the possibility of adding a new roof. Obviously, people who want a quick sale don’t want to have roof issues that slow down or derail the process.

Home inspectors are notorious for uncovering hidden leaks or other issues with roofs that require fixing before a home sale can close. Leaks and other issues that go along with a roof that has outlived its useful life, can stop a property sale until those issues are addressed. Plus, a poorly maintained or unattractive roof can diminish the number of people who enter into the potential buying pool – a factor that does not necessarily show up in those handy little estimates of ROI on roofing projects.

There is little disagreement that, when all else is comparable, a potential buyer will almost always opt for the home that can advertise the beauty and security of a solid, well-installed roof. When people walk away from the sale, your are spending a lot more money on taxes, utilities, maintenance and other costs holding the property until you identify alternative buyers. It doesn’t take long to understand how quickly avoiding that kind of delay can offset your investment in an attractive new roof.

Dick’s Roof Repair Service team, combined, has in excess of 125 years of service in Kenosha and Racine Counties. We have the references to prove it!

Our customers understand the value of hiring a roofing contractor with knowledge and experience. This holds true for all of our projects, whether they be a repair or an installation of a new roof. Don’t risk thousands of dollars contracting with a fly-by-night contractor operating out of the back of a pickup truck. You should demand a quality product that is professionally installed. It will return your investment in more ways than you think.

Contact Dick’s Roof Repair Service for an estimate on your roofing project. We are confident that we have the products you need, the designs you desire and the quality of work you deserve. In Kenosha, call 262-654-6644, or Racine 262-639-7864.

Low Sloping Roof Installation and Repair

Are you thinking about replacing the flat roof on your building? Then look no further than Dick’s Roof Repair Service. Dick’s is Kenosha and Racine’s preferred flat roof (also known as a low sloping roof) contractor. Dick’s has the knowledge and experience needed to complete your flat roof project successfully.

Flat and low slope roofs look attractive on a wide range of architectural styles and commercial buildings. You can even find a flat and low slope roof on the dormers and porches/balconies of residential homes. If you have an existing commercial building with a low slope roof, here are some reasons to have Dick’s Roof Repair Service inspect the roof.

  • There is ponding water on the roof.
  • There are alligator cracks in the roof, also known as large cracks.
  • The rubber from the low slope roof is pulling away from any of the walls.
  • The seams in the low slope roof have failed or are leaking.

If any of the above is happening on your low slope roof, than it is time to have Dick’s Roof Repair Service install a new roof on your commercial building.

Dick’s Roofing utilizes EPDM (Ethyline Propolyne Diene Terpolymer), which is the most commonly installed single-ply membrane for both residential and commercial applications, and is also a cost effective way to replace the roof. EPDM roofs come in different thicknesses, but we at Dick’s Roofing use the 0.60 mil, as it is a heavier rubber roofing.

EPDM is a single-ply rubber roofing membrane that is resistant to weathering, and abrasion damage. Because of its tolerance to a wide array of weather conditions including wind and hail, EPDM is one of the most sustainable and environmental materials currently used in the commercial roofing industry. An EPDM roof is a fully adhered system, which due to recent technology advances, has become a leading choice in second generation applications. It is ideal for reroof situations, as the previous roof can be torn out or it could go over the existing roof depending on what is currently installed on your roof.

Installation of a low slope roof is to be done in the spring, summer or early fall. Dick’s Roof Repair Service is your preferred commercial low slope roofing contractor who has the knowledge to navigate the intricacies of different commercial roofing systems – for new installations and repairs. We will evaluate your current commercial building’s roof and recommend the best possible solution. Vinyl Siding After Picture

Outside Home Improvements Pay Off in Long Term Value of Your Home

When you are selling your home, the old saying, if people drive by your home and are not impressed by the outside, they are not going to walk inside, holds true. Curb appeal is a major reason that siding replacement ranks so highly on the cost versus value report. Replacing your siding brings not only added value to your home, but is low maintenance and is an important issue for the cost-conscious home buyer. Some of the most popular products are vinyl siding and LP Smart siding. Dick’s Roof Repair can remove your old siding, install new insulation, and re-side your home to make it more energy efficient, saving you money for years to come.

With the weather being nice and everyone outside, homeowners are more aware of the curb appeal of their own home as well as the homes in their neighborhood. Everyone loves to show off a remodeled bathroom or kitchen but you need your siding and roof for your home to work. They are part of the foundation of your home and are needed to protect the interior of your home. When replacing the exterior of your home, it is more of a need than a want. We at Dick’s Roof Repair understand the impact that repairing / replacing exterior areas of your home can have on your family.

More homeowners tend to go with vinyl siding because it is the most cost effective siding, it is maintenance free, and it comes in a wide variety of colors and styles. Vinyl siding costs about 11 percent less than cedar siding and 26 percent less than aluminum siding, which is another reason why it has become a popular choice for siding in the Kenosha and Racine area.

Another siding option that homeowners select is LP Smart Siding, which offers all the warmth and beauty of traditional wood siding while providing the durability of a treated wood product. The LP siding has the same look and feel as cedar siding but comes with a maintenance free paint warranty; not to mention it has a primer that is resistant to termites, woodpeckers, carpenter ants, etc.

When potential home buyers look at a house, they will add the cost of remodeling the bathroom and kitchen into their purchase price. The one thing that people don’t want to figure into the cost of when they purchase a home is the replacement of the roof, siding and windows. They want those to already be completed. It is not glamorous to show off the new roof of your home, but it is a necessity.

Exterior projects, such as re-siding your home, is a major decision for any family, but one that is usually needed. By choosing Dick’s Roof Repair, you can be confident that you hired a quality, experienced contractor with over 60 years experience. Contact Dick’s Roof Repair today for a free estimate.

Maintaining and Extending the life of your existing flat roof

Maintaining and Extending the life of your existing flat roof

If you have an existing low-slope roofing system, also known as a flat roof, it is important to protect and maintain the flat roof. We at Dick’s Roof Repair Service are your local experts in polyglass coatings and flat roof maintenance. There are several keys to properly maintain and extend the life of your existing flat roof.

1. Apply a Polyglass Coating
Applying a Polyglass coating to a roof that is 10 – 15 years old can extend the life of the roof by up to 10 years and increase energy savings. We utilize Polyglass 700 which can be applied to EPDM Roofs, Torch Down Roofs, Granulated Roofs, PVC Roofs and Metal roof services.

2. Benefits of a Polyglass Coating
A Polyglass Coating will provide a long-term roof-top exposure that is skid resistant, UV resistant, energy efficient, and non-abrasive. Polyglass 700 is a bright white water-based elastomeric coating which forms a seamless membrane when applied to the roof. Not to mention, the white is used for maximum reflectivity to protect the roof from ultraviolet sunlight and other weather exposures.

3. Conduct Frequent Inspections
A consistent roof inspection schedule should be in place after the polyglass coating has been applied. This will help you catch and eliminate any issues before they arise.

4. Maintain Drainage System
A flat roof relies on a properly installed and designed drainage system to prevent unwanted standing water, which could cause the roofing materials to breakdown and eventually leak along the seams. To help protect against that, you want to make sure that all drainage outlets are functioning properly and are not blocked by any debris such as leaves.

By following these simple steps and working with our expert team at Dick’s Roof Repair Service, you can extend the life of your flat roof for many years.

Contact Dick’s Roofing today for a free estimate to apply a Polyglass Coating to your Flat Roof.
